The National Police Chief ensures that he will investigate the hoax demonstration video, the spreader will be imprisoned.

JAKARTA - The National Police is investigating the hoax video related to the demonstration that spread on social media with the narrative that it happened today.

"Currently, the team is conducting an in-depth investigation. Later, we will inform you at the right time," said National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 5.

The National Police Chief also reminded the public to spread information that was in accordance with the facts.

"Of course there is freedom, but don't do things that are inherently violating, especially then make false news, especially take actions that are certainly violating the law," said Sigit.

It is known that there are circulating on social media related to the video of the demonstration that occurred in Jakarta. However, the action in the video was a year ago.

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago stated in a press conference that the video was a hoax.

According to Djamari, the video was deliberately uploaded to mislead the public about false information.

"I declare that the video is not true. There is no such thing in Indonesia, in our homeland there are hoaxes like that. Maybe it happened in the past. In the future there is none," said Djamari.

He also ensured that the owners of social media accounts that spread hoax information about anarchist demonstrations could be subject to criminal sanctions.

"We will find the account. If it happens, there are indications and can meet the provisions of criminal offenses, we will do it and we will take firm action for it," he said.
