Donald Trump: There is no sign that the International Court of Justice will investigate me

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump admitted that there was no information or indication that the International Criminal Court or International Criminal Court (ICC) was trying to investigate or prosecute him. Trump made the statement while chairing a cabinet meeting broadcast live from Camp David on Friday, July 31 local time.

"There is no information that they (ICC) are targeting me," Trump said.

The statement came after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed that there were five countries that announced plans to withdraw from the ICC since the US launched a campaign against the international institution in early July. According to the secretary of state, the move was taken because the ICC was considered to threaten US sovereignty.

This week, Chad became the latest country to begin the formal process of withdrawing from the ICC. Previously, Venezuela, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger had also announced their decision to leave the ICC.

Trump explained that his administration's campaign against the ICC was not only to protect himself, but also to defend Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu and a number of other parties who were targets of the court's prosecution.

"That could have happened, but just so you know. He (Rubio) did not try to defend me. Rubio tried to defend Netanyahu and a number of other people. But there are many people who should not be seen that way. Currently there is no indication that I am among them," added the 79-year-old president, as reported by Anadolu, Saturday, August 1.

Previously, the US government had repeatedly launched sharp criticism of the ICC, especially after the court issued an arrest warrant for a number of Israeli officials, including Netanyahu, for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity related to Israel's aggression in Gaza.

For information, the former ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan, who issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu in 2024 for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, was recently dismissed from his post following allegations of ethical violations.
