UMJ is raided by 1,400 student candidates from 44 countries, only 40 of which pass the selection

JAKARTA - The efforts of the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) to expand its presence at the international level are beginning to show results. In the New Student Admission (PMB) for the 2026 Academic Year, as many as 1,400 international prospective students from 44 countries applied to continue their education at UMJ.

All applicants will undergo two stages of selection, namely administrative selection and interview. From the thousands of participants, UMJ will only receive the best 40 international students, consisting of **30 Master Program students** and 10 undergraduate program students.

UMJ prioritizes the admission of master students because it is considered to accelerate the improvement of academic quality through internationally reputable scientific publications, expand cross-country research collaboration, and strengthen UMJ's position in the global arena.

Vice Rector III of UMJ, Prof. Dr. Tria Atika Endah Permatasari, said the high interest of prospective students from dozens of countries was a proud achievement and at the same time brought great responsibility for the university.

"The trust from prospective students who come from 44 countries shows that UMJ's reputation is increasingly known internationally. This is motivation for us to continue to improve the quality of academic and non-academic services so that we can meet the expectations of students from various cultural backgrounds," he said.

According to Tria, the increasing number of international applicants is the result of an internationalization strategy that has been consistently carried out for the past few years.

The strategy includes expanding cooperation with various universities, educational institutions, and international organizations, increasing promotion through digital platforms, social media, international webinars, to participation in global education exhibitions.

In addition, UMJ also continues to develop international-class programs, such as English-language classes, student exchanges, research collaboration, and presenting more friendly services for foreign students, ranging from the admission process to assistance during their campus life.

Not only that, UMJ also continues to prioritize excellence as a university that integrates academic quality with the values of Progressive Islam and concern for global issues.

In the future, UMJ targets the strengthening of internationalization through the expansion of partnership networks with educational institutions in various regions of the world. This campus will also add study programs that have international appeal, increase English-language courses, develop dual degree programs, joint research, student exchange, and summer courses.

The optimization of language study centers, the digitization of international student services, and the involvement of foreign alumni as ambassadors for UMJ promotion in their home countries are also part of the strategy.

"We hope that the presence of international students will not only increase UMJ's global reputation, but also create an increasingly multicultural academic environment rich in the exchange of knowledge, experience, and culture," said Tria.

He added that the interaction between Indonesian students and students from various countries is expected to broaden global insight, strengthen the attitude of tolerance, as well as increase the competitiveness of graduates at the international level.

"God willing, UMJ will continue to be committed to becoming a superior university, globally competitive, and making a real contribution to the progress of the nation and world civilization through education, research, and community service," he concluded.

Through the high interest of international students in PMB 2026, UMJ confirms its commitment to becoming a campus that is increasingly open to the world community while building an inclusive, collaborative, and internationally standard higher education ecosystem.
