KPK conducts OTT 12 times until mid-2026, 7 regional heads are suspects

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has recorded a significant increase in hand-catching operations (OTT) by mid-year. A total of 12 silent operations have been carried out and seven of them have ensnared regional heads.

This was conveyed by KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto in a press conference 'KPK Work Achievement Semester I 2026: Solid in the Middle of Transition, Accountable to Serve the State' which was held on Thursday, July 30. This increase in the number of silent operations is referred to as a commitment to eradicating corruption indiscriminately.

The 12 OTT carried out by the KPK took place in a number of regions, including the Pati Regency Government, Madiun, Pekalongan, Rejang Lebong, Cilacap, Tulungagung, and Muara Enim.

Then the silent operation targeted the Tax Service Office (KPP) of Jakarta, the Banjarmasin Pratama KPP, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, the Depok District Court, and the Ministry of Immigration and Correction.

"The phenomenon that is the main focus of the media and the public today is the high intensity of being caught red-handed, trapping regional heads. The KPK emphasizes that there is no discrimination in enforcement," said Setyo at the KPK's Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta.

Setyo also explained that from January to June 2026, the KPK issued 72 investigation orders (sprinlidik) as an initial step to investigate alleged corruption crimes.

"The number of activities caught up to mid-2026 has increased significantly. This data is compared to 2025 in the same period with two activities," explained the former KPK Director of Investigation.

In addition, the KPK has referred 76 cases to court or increased compared to the same period in 2025 which only reached 46 cases. Currently, there are 119 defendants undergoing trial.

In addition to enforcement, the KPK also emphasized asset recovery efforts. A total of Rp. 59.99 billion was handed over to the state treasury from the auction of 117 seized assets by the Directorate of Asset Tracking, Evidence Management, and Execution (Labuksi).

The assets to be auctioned consist of land, buildings, apartments, precious metals to luxury goods originating from a number of corruption cases. The details are from the cases of former Regent of Cirebon Sunjaya Purwadisastra, former Regent of Probolinggo Puput Tantriana Sari, former Regent of Mojokerto Mustofa Kamal Pasa, former Chief Justice Gazalba Saleh, and former Governor of Bengkulu Rohidin Mersyah.

The KPK also noted the transfer of the status of use of state seizure assets worth Rp229.8 billion to a number of government agencies to support public services.

Some of them are confiscated houses belonging to former Director General of the Directorate General of Taxes Rafael Alun Trisambodo worth Rp42.2 billion which are now used for KPK operations.

In addition, the assets of the former Director of DJP Inspection and Collection Angin Prayitno Aji, worth Rp. 40.9 billion, were transferred to the Attorney General's Office and the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI). "The KPK has a principle, eradicating corruption is not just imprisoning corruptors. But rather recovering state losses or asset recovery," he concluded.
