The Minister of Home Affairs ensures that the rules for regional heads' salaries will be revised.

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian revealed that the rules regarding financial rights or salaries for regional heads will be revised or reformulated to adjust to the current situation.

He explained that the salary for regional heads was regulated by Government Regulation (PP) Number 109 of 2000. This means that the rules have not changed for 26 years, while the current economic conditions are very different.

"It's time to revise it, but of course later we will make a team again at the government level, yes, we will also talk to the Minister of Finance, Bappenas," said Titodilansir ANTARA, Thursday, July 30.

Even so, Tito said the revision of the regulation on salary adjustments for regional heads must be in accordance with the performance of each.

The Minister of Home Affairs explained that the performance of regional heads must be good based on assessment indicators from the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), the Ministry of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB), and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In addition, according to the Minister of Education, the assessment must also be linked to the Regional Original Income (PAD). Because if the operational expenditure is in line with the amount of PAD, according to him, not only the regional heads will benefit, but also the community.

Therefore, the Minister of Home Affairs said there must be a desire from regional heads to find creative and innovative ideas to increase PAD, without burdening the community. With increased PAD, then the APBD will increase, so public facilities should have good quality.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Commission II of the DPR, Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, said that the revision of the rules also needed to include reward and punishment for regional heads based on their performance.

He also handed over the reformulation of the regional head's financial rights to the government. However, he asked that the rules be more proportional and fair for regional heads.

"One of the ends is that we certainly hope that the potential for abuse of authority, including corruption in it, can be minimized," said Rifqinizamy.
