Jakarta Weather Hot, Could it Rain Like Bogor?

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that a number of major cities in Indonesia are potentially hit by light rain, including the Jakarta area, on Thursday.

BMKG Praktirawan Yuyun in a weather information broadcast conveyed that the potential rain was triggered by the entry of regional atmospheric dynamics.

"Light rain is predicted to occur in Medan, Padang, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Bandar Lampung, Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Palangkaraya, to Tanjung Selor," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 30.

Yuyun explained in detail that the potential rain in a number of areas was driven by the formation of a cyclonic circulation in the South China Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean of the Philippines.

This condition is reported to form a convergence and confluence area which significantly increases the potential for rain cloud growth around the circulation area.

The areas of wind speed deceleration or convergence observed by the BMKG weather analysis team stretch from the Malacca Strait, Riau, West Sumatra, Jambi, the Sunda Strait, Central Kalimantan, the Makassar Strait, to Papua.

Meanwhile, eastern Indonesia, such as Mamuju, Palu, and Jayapura, is also expected to experience light rain, as well as rain accompanied by lightning in Bengkulu and Pontianak.
