JAKARTA - BRIN and BMKG will map the areas at risk of being affected by El Nino before the government determines the steps to be taken. The mapping includes the location of threats, risk levels, and the need for handling in each area.
BRIN Head Arif Satria said coordination with the BMKG was needed so that policies were not only based on general forecasts, but on more detailed risk maps.
"We will coordinate with the BMKG, see the El Nino map anywhere and what the risks are," said Arif at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 28.
According to Arif, the results of the mapping will be discussed by the government in dealing with extreme weather. BRIN also prepares research support to strengthen prediction and mitigation capabilities.
"We are expected to develop what can be used to predict and anticipate," he said.
Arif said BRIN was still waiting for the President's instructions regarding the steps to be prioritized. He has not mentioned the most vulnerable areas, the peak time of El Nino, nor the technology that will be applied in each region.
However, BRIN has prepared a number of technologies that can be used after the risk map and regional needs are determined.
