BINTAN - Police have arrested a school guard with the initials AS who is suspected of committing extortion against students at SDN 001 Mantang District and the proceeds were used, among others, for online gambling.

Head of the East Bintan Police Sector (Kapolsek), Bintan Police AKP Aang Setiawan in a statement on Monday said that based on the results of the examination, the perpetrator admitted that the extortion of ten elementary school children aged between 11 and 15 years was used for various needs, including playing online gambling.

He explained that this case began with a report from the public regarding extortion carried out by AS from 2023 to 2026. The amount of money obtained from each child varies, ranging from Rp. 10 thousand to Rp. 20 thousand.

"A number of parents of the victims, along with the Mantang Sub-district Secretary, RT/RW officials and village heads, came to the East Bintan Police to report the alleged crime of extortion," said AKP Aang, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 28.

The police immediately conducted an investigation and search, and managed to arrest the AS perpetrator at a house in Mantang Besar Village.

"After coordinating with the local Bhabinkamtibmas, the perpetrator and the evidence were successfully secured," he said.

As for the consequences of his actions, AS was charged with Article 482 paragraph (1) letter a of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP).

"Investigators are still continuing the legal process, including the closure of the case, seizure of evidence, detention of suspects, and coordination with the Public Prosecutor (JPU) for further legal proceedings," said AKP Aang.
