JAKARTA - The National SAR Agency (Basarnas) Manokwari closed the search operation for Yanto Idorway, a presenter of TVRI West Papua who was swept away by the river in the Memti Waterfall area, Sisrang Village, Pegunungan Arfak Regency, without any results.
Head of the Manokwari Basarnas Office Yefri Sabaruddin said the closure of the operation was decided through a joint SAR Team evaluation, SAR potential elements and the victim's family at 18.15 WIT.
"According to standard operating procedures, it has been carried out for seven days but no signs of the victim's whereabouts have been found," said Yefri as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 24.
The seventh day of the SAR operation began at around 07.30 WIT with a focus on searching for gaps in the rocks, scouring the river flow for approximately 1.6 kilometers, and aerial monitoring using a thermal drone within a radius of 1-2 kilometers.
The joint SAR team then disseminated information to the public in villages around the river through Village Head (Babinsa) and Bhabinkamtibmas (Bhayangkara Head of Security and Community Order).
"Until 17.50 WIT, all areas that were the focus of the search had been checked, but the victim had not been found," said Yefri.
The SAR operation involved personnel from the Manokwari SAR Office, the K9 Team of the West Papua Police, the Arfak Mountains Police, the Arfak Mountains Kodim, the victim's family, TVRI personnel, and local residents.
The operation was supported by a number of facilities, including rescue cars, operational vehicles of the TNI-Polri, ambulances, thermal drones, trail motorcycles, communication equipment, water SAR equipment, mountaineering equipment, and evacuation equipment.
During the seven-day search, the team faced various obstacles, such as rapidly changing weather, thick fog on the route to the location, cold temperatures, strong river currents, and large and slippery river rocks.
"So it requires high vigilance in every stage of the search. Thank you for the support from all SAR elements, participating agencies, the community and the families of the victims who were involved in the operation for seven days," said Yefri.
