JAKARTA - During the dry season, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning in the form of the potential for light, moderate to heavy rain that may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in various major cities in Indonesia on Friday, July 24.

Prakirawan Sufia Nur, quoted by Antara, explained in general terms that the convergence area extends in the eastern coastal areas of the Philippines, the East Philippine Sea, northern Philippines, and the Sulu Sea.

This condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth along the areas that are passed by convergence or confluence.

Therefore, his party estimates that several major cities have the potential to experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds only in the Pangkal Pinang and Tanjung Selor areas.

Meanwhile, several other major cities will experience light to moderate rain, namely the Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Palembang, Banjarmasin, Mamuju, Palu, Gorontalo, and Nabire regions.

As for the big cities, it is estimated that only cloudy conditions will be experienced today, namely the Banda Aceh, Jambi, Bengkulu, Jakarta, Serang, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Pontianak, Palangka Raya, Samarinda, Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke regions.
