BADUNG - The Badung Police stated that the perpetrator of the shooting of a foreign national from Morocco and a security officer at a nightclub in the Canggu area, Badung Regency, Bali, was positive for drug use based on urine examination results.

The Badung Police Chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba in Badung, Monday, said the results of the urine test on the suspect HSH showed the presence of THC, MDMA, and amphetamine.

The examination was carried out after the perpetrator was secured and underwent a health examination.

"We have also tested the suspect's urine with positive results for THC, MDMA, and amphetamine," said Joseph at a press conference at the Badung Police, reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 20.

In addition to the urine test, the police also ensured that the perpetrator's health was in good condition so that he could undergo the legal process.

Currently, the suspect HSH has been officially detained for the sake of investigation.

The Police Chief explained that the shooting incident occurred on Friday (17/7) early morning at around 02.50 Wita at a nightclub on Jalan Pantai Berawa, Canggu, North Kuta District, Badung Regency.

The incident began when the suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol, got into an argument with another visitor. When the security officer tried to defuse it, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired once, hitting the security officer with the initials IMYM and EA (25), a Moroccan citizen.

As a result of the incident, IMYM suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh, while the same projectile hit EA's left knee. Both victims had to undergo treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, another witness suffered a wound to the back of the head from glass shards during the commotion.

The Police Chief said that the condition of IMYM had improved and he was allowed to go home from the hospital because the gunshot wound he suffered only penetrated the tissue and did not hit the bone.

During the investigation, the police also revealed that the suspect HSH had attempted to flee abroad through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, with the intention of Kuala Lumpur.

However, the effort was successfully thwarted thanks to coordination between the Bali Police, Badung Police, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Immigration, and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Immigration.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Badung Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police Azarul Ahmad, added that the firearm used by the suspect had a valid ownership permit since 2021.

However, investigators found a 9-millimeter caliber barrel that did not match the permit document which was supposed to use a 32-millimeter caliber barrel. The findings are still being investigated by investigators.

Until now, the police have only named HSH as a suspect. Investigators are still continuing to deepen to uncover the entire series of events, including the possibility of other parties involved.

For his actions, the suspect HSH was charged with Article 306 of the Criminal Code concerning possession and use of firearms without rights with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

In addition, the perpetrator was charged with Article 466 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code regarding abuse resulting in serious injury with a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.
