Magnitude 7.3 Earthquake Hits Mexico's Chiapas Coast

JAKARTA - A magnitude 7.3 earthquake has hit the offshore area of the state of Chiapas, Mexico, in the Tehuantepec Gulf region.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake occurred at 14.48 GMT (21.48 WIB) with a depth of about 9.4 miles or about 15 kilometers.

The epicenter was about 29.8 miles or about 48 kilometers southwest of the city of Aquiles Serdan, Chiapas state.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Friday, July 17, the shock occurred about an hour after a magnitude 4.7 earthquake was recorded in the same area.

Until this report was submitted, there was no official information regarding casualties, damage, or potential tsunami threats due to the earthquake.
