Iran activated its air defense systems in parts of Tehran early Thursday, amid reports of explosions in and around the capital.
The semi-official Tasnim News Agency said air defenses were activated in several areas, including eastern and western Tehran, Anadolu quoted (16/7).
The news agency also quoted initial reports of explosions around Parchin and Pakdasht, which are located southeast of the capital.
The governor of Pakdasht separately confirmed the activation of air defense in the city and said explosions had been heard.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) later said there were no casualties in Parchin and Pakdasht, according to the Fars News Agency.
Fars quoted a spokesman in Semnan Province as saying that part of Semnan Airport was the target of "enemy air attacks," adding that rescue forces "took the necessary measures" after the attack.
"Fortunately, residential areas in cities and villages in Semnan province were not attacked tonight; people do not need to pay attention to the news and rumors made by the enemy media and do not need to worry," the spokesman said.
This development comes amid rising tensions between the US and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides launching attacks since last week despite a Pakistani-mediated memorandum of understanding aimed at ending their conflict and reaching a lasting peace deal.
