PURWOKERTO - The Education Office (Dindik) of Banyumas Regency, Central Java, recorded that as many as 61 state elementary schools and eight state junior high schools (SMP) were short of students in the implementation of the New Student Admission System (SPMB) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year.

The Secretary of Dindik Banyumas Regency, Wahyu Adhi Fibrianto, said that the local government allowed state schools that had not met the quota to open in-person registration after receiving the approval of the Regent of Banyumas so that students who applied could still attend learning activities from the first day of school.

"The Regent has allowed schools to open offline registration last week. Our hope is that children who have just registered offline can all enter on the first day of school," he said on the sidelines of the Opening of the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) Friendly Level of Banyumas Regency 2026/2027 School Year at the Si Panji Palace, Purwokerto, Antara, Monday, July 13.

Wahyu Adhi, who is also the Chairman of the New Student Admission System (SPMB) Committee for the 2026 Banyumas Regency Level Elementary and Junior High School, said that at the beginning of the implementation of the SPMB, there were eight state SMPs and 61 state elementary schools that had not met the quota for the admission of new students.

"The recapitulation of the results of offline (offline) registration is still ongoing, so the actual number of schools that still lack students is not final.

According to him, several schools, especially at the elementary level, only received less than five new students.

However, he said, teaching and learning activities continued as usual, because the provisions only regulate the maximum limit of the study group, namely 28 students for elementary schools and 32 students for junior high schools.

He gave an example of SD Negeri Kranji 8 which on the first day of school only had three new students in class I, so there were still 25 seats available, while for class II there were four new students who were transferred from other schools.

This condition will be the basis for evaluation by the Education Office in the implementation of SPMB in the following year.

Meanwhile, the Head of SD Negeri Kranji 8, Lailla Nurul said that the school at the beginning of the implementation of SPMB only received one applicant through the online system.

After the offline registration was opened, the number of new students increased to seven, including transfer students.

"Initially we only got one student from online registration (online). After opening offline registration according to the direction of the Banyumas Regent, thank God the number of new students increased to seven (including transfer students)," he said.

According to him, the low number of registrants is influenced by the implementation of online SPMB which was first implemented at the elementary level, so that the community is still adapting.

In addition, he said, socialization regarding the online registration mechanism was considered not fully understood by the public.

In this case, all state elementary schools in four sub-districts of the former Purwokerto Administrative City will become pilot sites for online SPMB in the 2026/2027 school year.

He said the location of SD Negeri Kranji 8 which is not on the main road and is close to a number of other schools also affects the interest of prospective students.

"However, the school remains committed to providing the best education services for all students," he said.

He said SD Negeri Kranji 8 has a quota of 28 students for class I.

In the previous school year, the school received 22 new students through offline registration.

"To increase the number of registrants, schools carry out socialization through social media, village governments, RT/RW managers, and coordinate with the Banyumas Regency Education Office," said Laila.
