Indonesian Parliament Speaker Receives Indian PM's Visit to Parliament, Attended by President Prabowo, Strengthening India-RI Cooperation

JAKARTA - Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani received a visit from the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, at the MPR/DPR/DPD building. Puan hopes that this visit will further strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and India.

PM Narendra Modi's visit to Parliament was also greeted by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

"Alhamdulillah, we, the DPR RI, together with the MPR RI and the DPD RI, have just received a visit from the Indian Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi, who had the opportunity to give his speech in this DPR building. And alhamdulillah, his visit was also attended by the President, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, and the Vice President, Mr. Gibran Rakabuming Raka. In his speech, PM Modi conveyed that he hoped that the relationship between India and Indonesia could be brought to a higher level," said Puan, Tuesday, July 7.

Along with the 75-year-old relationship between Indonesia and India, Puan said, PM Modi in his speech also wanted to follow up on cooperation related to the Ganges River and the Mahakam River.

"That as long as the two rivers are still flowing, that is the meaning of the cooperation between Indonesia and India must remain intertwined and can remain close, close, and improved. In fact, he also emphasized the strengthening of Indonesia's relations through a number of cultural similarities," he said.

"He also quoted President Soekarno's statement that the Indonesian and Indian people are bound by blood and cultural ties. Therefore, PM Modi invited Indonesia to carry out various types of cooperation that had been followed up in his meeting with President Prabowo Subianto. And one of them is cooperation in satellite applications and India is said to support Indonesia in developing satellite launch facilities," he continued.

Puan said that until tomorrow, President Prabowo Subianto will accompany PM Modi even until his visit to Prambanan to launch the preservation and restoration of the world heritage site. "So it's because historically the relationship between Indonesia and India has been going on for a long time, even since President Soekarno," he said.

According to Puan, the visit of the Indian Prime Minister today is an honor for the DPR RI. "Of course, together with the MPR and DPD, in receiving the visit of a prime minister who has been with Indonesia since the Asian-African Movement and 1955 until now together with Indonesia," said Puan.
