JAKARTA - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) hopes to gain access to Iran's nuclear facilities in the next few weeks.

"I hope that this can be realized in the next few weeks, no longer than that. Don't forget that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) they have signed talks about a 60-day period to reach a comprehensive agreement. Of course, there is more than just nuclear in it," said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to RIA Novosti as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 3.

He also reminded that the document includes freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as well as issues of territorial integrity related to the ceasefire.

Grossi added that there were a number of issues that had to be resolved, and they were all quite complicated. However, they had set a two-month deadline.

"Time is running out, so now the time left is less than that. I hope that if a final agreement can be reached within that period, then there will be an opportunity to start the real work, which of course includes access to these facilities," he added.

Grossi said the IAEA believed that the stockpiles of enriched uranium were still at Iran's nuclear facilities. However, to ensure this, the IAEA is said to need to return to the inspection and ensure that everything is still there.

"We haven't done it, but there are good reasons to believe that the material is still at the current location," Grossi said.

He explained that the IAEA's assessment was based on the results of the last routine inspection conducted by the agency before the outbreak of the conflict known as the 12-day war.

"We know exactly where the material is and how much at the time. Since then, we have monitored the location through satellite imagery and other methods, as many parties have done. We have not seen any major movement, apart from the fact that the facilities have suffered severe damage. Some access to the location is even closed," said Grossi.
