JAKARTA - The construction of the Latumenten Flyover in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, is said to have originated from the aspirations of residents who have complained about traffic jams for years due to a railway crossing. Now, the project is being rushed and is targeted to be completed in December 2026.

Member of Commission C of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Hardiyanto Kenneth, said the proposal for the construction of the flyover emerged when he held a recess in the Latumenten area in 2024. At that time, residents asked for a solution to overcome the congestion that occurs every day.

"In 2024, I had a working visit to this area (Latumenten) during the recess. The residents then asked for a flyover to be built to relieve the congestion caused by the crowded train crossing," said Kenneth when accompanying DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to review the construction of the Latumenten Flyover, Thursday, July 2.

According to Kenneth, at that time the construction could not be immediately realized due to budget constraints. He then asked the government to conduct a study before the project entered the auction process.

"Finally I asked for a study to be made regarding this problem. After that it entered the auction process and now it is starting to show results. Hopefully it can be completed on time as expected by the Governor," he said.

In addition to building a flyover, the project is also designed to be integrated with public transportation. Later, a skywalk will be built connecting the Transjakarta stop and the KRL Station, as well as a Pedestrian Crossing Bridge (JPO) equipped with a lift to make it easier for people with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women, and baby carriage users.

"The presence of this integration facility is expected not only to facilitate vehicle traffic, but also to increase the comfort of pedestrians who switch modes of transportation. With the skywalk that is directly connected to the Transjakarta bus stop and the KRL Station, people no longer need to cross in the middle of the heavy traffic flow," he said.

Meanwhile, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung said that the construction of the Latumenten Flyover is currently at 55.2 percent. The project with an investment value of Rp. 259 billion is targeted to be completed on December 15, 2026.

"This Latumenten flyover is one of the most anticipated flyovers in Jakarta. Why? Here, if you look at it in the morning, afternoon, and day, the traffic is very high," said Pramono.

After construction is completed, the DKI Provincial Government also plans to close the railway crossing in the area. All vehicles will be directed to cross the flyover so that they are no longer in contact with the train tracks.

"So that way anyone has to go up so that the crossing of this railway is no longer disturbed and also causes accidents like what happened in Bekasi at that time," said Pramono.

Deputy Head of Grogol Petamburan Sub-district Pradana Putra said the construction of the Latumenten Flyover was an answer to the aspirations of residents who had been conveyed for decades to overcome congestion in the area.

"This is a decades-long wait for residents. Thank God it has been realized. Thank you Mr. Council and Mr. Governor. Hopefully this flyover can be the answer to the congestion problem," concluded Pradana.
