JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that the West Java Provincial Government has officially set the emergency drought disaster alert status to anticipate the expansion of the impact of the clean water crisis and forest and land fires.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that the determination of the emergency standby status was the legal basis for fulfilling the needs of emergency logistics in the region.

"The impact of this drought has received attention from the West Java Provincial Government, which responded by establishing an emergency alert status for drought and forest fires in the West Java region," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 2.

Abdul explained that the validity of the determination of the emergency standby status at the provincial level was calculated from July 1, 2026.

The rapid steps taken by the West Java Provincial Government also responded to the wave of daily drought disaster event reports that began to hit a number of district areas.

According to Abdul, based on the rapid survey report of the team in the field, the drought event at the beginning of this dry season has hit the administrative area of Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java.

The impact of the decline in water source volume which resulted in a domestic-scale clean water crisis was reported to be centered in the residential area of Pedangkamulyan Village, Bojonggambir District, Tasikmalaya Regency.

The BNPB Operations Control Center recorded at least 850 heads of households (KK) of Pedangkamulyan Village residents who were directly affected and had difficulty accessing clean water for daily needs.

Responding to the impact of drought that began to make it difficult for residents, Abdul revealed that the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Tasikmalaya Regency immediately deployed a fleet of rapid reaction teams in the field.

According to him, BPBD Tasikmalaya's rapid reaction team officers have periodically distributed clean water supplies directly to affected communities since Wednesday (1/7) to ensure that their basic needs are met.
