JAKARTA - A patient undergoing tests related to suspected Ebola virus infection at a hospital in Glasgow after being treated on Tuesday morning (30/6).

According to local media reports, the patient was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where a series of tests were carried out to determine whether the patient had contracted the virus.

The National newspaper reported the person had just returned to Glasgow from an Ebola-affected country.

An official source told the newspaper that Ebola is a deadly and contagious disease, so emergency measures must be implemented immediately to protect staff and the general public.

"The person came to the Emergency Patient Admission Unit, where people are referred by their general practitioner or through the 101 number from the health agency rather than having to come to the emergency unit. The unit was immediately closed and isolated from the rest of the hospital," said the source.

Local health officials have not confirmed the diagnosis.

If confirmed, it would be the first case in Britain since the recent outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo was declared a public health emergency and became an international concern by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Last week, France confirmed its first imported Ebola case after a humanitarian doctor returned from a mission in Congo.

The Ebola outbreak, centered in the eastern Ituri province, has spread to neighboring areas and prompted increased surveillance in Uganda amid concerns of cross-border transmission.

Health officials have warned the outbreak continues to pose a significant regional threat, particularly in conflict-affected areas, population displacement, and weak health care infrastructure.

The outbreak was triggered by a rare Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus and there is no vaccine. The disease causes severe hemorrhagic fever and is spread through direct contact with infected human body fluids.
