Pakistan launched an emergency tender to buy one cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to be delivered this week amid disruptions in energy supply flows due to the return of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Monday, June 29, the state-owned company Pakistan LNG Limited invited international suppliers to submit bids for the delivery of one LNG cargo to the Qasim Port in Karachi, based on a tender document issued by the Pakistan Public Procurement Regulatory Authority.

The cargo is scheduled to arrive between June 30 and July 4.

The tender covers the procurement of around 140,000 cubic meters of LNG with a volume tolerance of 10 percent more or less.

The Strait of Hormuz is the world's main route for LNG shipments, especially from Qatar, which is one of Pakistan's main suppliers.

Disruption to ship traffic in the waters could force buyer countries to turn to the spot market, where LNG prices are generally more expensive and supplies are more difficult to obtain on short notice.

Pakistan has been under pressure on energy supplies several times since the conflict in the region affected LNG distribution.

This condition prompted the Pakistani government to seek additional LNG supplies in the spot market to meet domestic needs.

The latest tender was announced after a series of attacks on merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz raised concerns among ship owners, insurers and energy buyers about the safety of shipping in the strategic waterway.
