JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has confirmed that it will thoroughly investigate the alleged intimidation of doctor Icha Pakaenoni who served at the Leona Kefamenanu Hospital, North Central Timor Regency (TTU), East Nusa Tenggara. The case came to light after doctor Icha was allegedly depressed to the point of death.
The Head of the Ministry of Health's Public Communication and Information Bureau, Aji Muhawarman, said the Directorate General of Health Human Resources together with the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Health were currently investigating the incident.
"Every health worker has the right to protection, security, and respect in carrying out their duties to serve the community. There should be no intimidation, pressure or actions that degrade the dignity of health workers," said Aji in Jakarta, Sunday, June 28, quoted from Antara.
According to Aji, the Ministry of Health condemns all forms of intimidation, bullying, and abuse of authority against health workers in all health facilities in Indonesia.
He emphasized that such actions cannot be justified because they have the potential to disrupt health services and have a serious impact on the psychological condition of medical personnel.
As a form of commitment to protect health workers, the Ministry of Health will coordinate with local governments, professional organizations, law enforcement, and hospital parties to ensure that the investigation process is completed. The government will also provide legal protection and psychosocial support for health workers.
This case came to light after information circulated that Dr. Icha was allegedly intimidated while treating a child who was bitten by a snake at the Leona Kefamenanu Hospital on June 13, 2026. The alleged intimidation is said to involve TTU DPRD member Norbetus Tubani along with Therensius Lazakar who is a family member of the patient.
The incident is said to have caused Dr. Icha to suffer severe trauma and had to undergo intensive treatment. On Friday, June 26, Dr. Icha was reported to have died and allegedly committed suicide due to depression.
Meanwhile, the Regent of TTU Yosep Falentinus Kebo stated that he supported the steps of the family of the late doctor Icha to take legal action against the alleged intimidation carried out by three members of the TTU DPRD.
"We fully support the various efforts that will be carried out by the family of Icha's doctors, including legal efforts," said Yosep.
He also said that he had coordinated with the TTU Police to handle the alleged intimidation case professionally in accordance with applicable laws.
