Lebanon's 'Gerah' Hezbollah Signs Trilateral Pact, Its Content Does Not Make Israel Kapok

JAKARTA - Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem cursed the trilateral framework document agreed to by the US, Israel and Lebanon to reconcile the conflict between Beirut and Tel Aviv.

Citing AFP, Sunday, June 28, the trilateral pact was signed in Washington on Friday, June 27 after five rounds of talks.

The contents of the document include rules for the re-acquisition of two areas annexed by the Israeli army and subsequently guarded by the Lebanese military, and a confirmation of the disarmament of the Hezbollah group.

"The framework agreement in Washington is shameful, reprehensible, and a surrender of sovereignty. This agreement is null and void, and the provisions of the Iran-American memorandum of understanding must be implemented," Qassem said in a statement.

Qassem assessed that the trilateral framework document was a big mistake by the Lebanese Government.

Lebanon was dragged into a regional war when Hezbollah backed Iran retaliated against the US-Israeli aggression by firing rockets into Israel on March 2. The move was taken to avenge the death of Iran's supreme leader in the US-Israeli attack.

Israel, which frequently attacks Lebanon, then increased its intensity by carrying out massive air raids on southern Lebanon.

Not relenting, Israel carried out a ground invasion of southern Lebanon until it openly annexed the territory of its neighboring country, an occupation effort that was followed by massive destruction of houses and other buildings as in Gaza and the West Bank.

Qassem stressed that the trilateral framework that has been signed does not stop the potential for Israeli attacks on Lebanon in the future.

Regarding the document, there was no spotlight from the Lebanese Government on Israel's military move to annex southern Lebanon, which has caused civilian casualties.

Qassem then accused the Lebanese government of having committed a "big mistake" and "legitimized the continuation of the (Israeli) occupation for years", which "could even lead to the annexation of these lands".
