JAKARTA - The Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) explained the reason why prospective managers of the Red and White Village/Village Cooperative (KDKMP) and the Red and White Fishermen Cooperative (KNMP) need to undergo basic military training (latsarmil).
According to the Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of the Ministry of Defense, Major General TNI Ketut Gede Wetan Pastia, the latsarmil is enforced so that prospective managers have a high discipline and strong work under pressure.
"This state and managerial training is aimed at shaping character, discipline, leadership, integrity, cooperation, responsibility, professionalism, the ability to work under pressure, and a spirit of dedication to the community," said Ketut at a press conference at the Ministry of Defense's office, Central Jakarta, Saturday.
He explained that the various abilities must be possessed by prospective managers of KDKMP and KNMP because later they will manage the circulation of people's money through cooperatives.
According to him, with strong leadership and professionalism, the cooperatives they lead are expected to be one of the strong determinants of the people's economy in rural areas.
"A strong people's economy is part of national resilience. Therefore, the formation of prospective cooperative managers who have character, integrity, discipline, and leadership spirit is an important part," he said.
Regarding the many physical activities and semi-military training during the military training, Ketut emphasized that it was not done to make the cooperative managers as soldiers.
"The emphasis is not on physical ability, but on mental formation, character, responsibility, fighting spirit, cooperation, and problem-solving ability," said Ketut as quoted by Antara.
