JAKARTA - Those of you who are fond of getting acquainted through dating apps must be vigilant. The West Java Regional Police revealed that the victim of kidnapping and persecution with the initials YTR (29) knew the suspect Taufik Hidayat through the Tinder dating app before the two of them lived together in a number of boarding houses in the city of Bandung.

West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan said the relationship between the victim and the suspect began in 2024 after the two got acquainted through the application.

"This introduction began in 2024 through the Tinder application. They met, felt close, had a relationship, then lived together in a boarding house," said Rudi as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 26.

Rudi explained that during the relationship, the victim and the suspect had moved several times. Investigators have identified four locations that both of them have occupied and all of them have been carried out at the crime scene (TKP).

Before disappearing, he said, the victim worked at a company in the Pasteur area, Bandung City. To his family, the victim admitted that he would move to work in Majalengka Regency because he had received a higher salary offer.

However, after being traced, the family did not find the victim at the workplace or the location of the residence mentioned.

"The family tried to communicate through Facebook because the victim's phone number could not be reached. The victim had responded that the family should not take care of him because he felt he was an adult," he said.

The family also received information that the victim worked at a television media company in Jakarta. However, the results of the investigators' investigation showed that the information was not true.

The victim's existence was finally known after the family received information that YTR was being treated at the Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) Bandung due to serious injuries allegedly caused by kidnapping and persecution.

"The perpetrator stabbed the victim's body with cigarettes, hit the victim's face, was repeated. And committed kidnapping by locking the victim in a room and leaving him helpless," said Rudi.

Investigators at the West Java Police are still completing evidence and examining witnesses to complete the case file before it is forwarded to the public prosecutor.
