JAKARTA - Criticism from netizens against the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service (Dishub) after the crackdown on illegal parking of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers in Jatinegara has emerged as a new spotlight. Many parties consider that enforcement of the rules so far seems to only target ojol, while illegal parking at a number of other points, including around government offices and police stations, is still rampant.

In response to this, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service, Budi Awaluddin, emphasized that the discipline was carried out for all violations without distinguishing the type of vehicle or the profession of the driver.

"We discipline all violations indiscriminately. Many private cars have been towed and disciplined, but not all of them are viral or exposed like the ojol case yesterday," Budi told reporters, Monday, June 22.

According to him, the viral case involving the ojol driver some time ago became a momentum for evaluation for Dishub in carrying out enforcement of rules in the field. Therefore, a more humane approach will be a priority in the future.

On the other hand, the controversy also opened up a problem that has long been complained about by ojol drivers, namely the lack of special parking spaces in office buildings, shopping centers, and public transportation areas.

Budi admitted that his party had data on a number of locations that had not provided parking facilities for ojol drivers. In fact, this issue has actually been included in the agenda for discussion by the Dishub.

"Some of them already exist, they are in our data. And actually we will do that. Yes, when I take office and we look at the map, yes we will do that, like that," he said.

Dishub is now planning to bring together the ojol community, application operators, and building managers to find a common solution. This step is considered important so that enforcement on the ground runs in parallel with the provision of adequate facilities.

"We will immediately coordinate and hold a meeting by inviting friends from the ojol community as well as operators so that in the future there will be cooperation between the online motorcycle taxi (ojol) community, building management, and the Transportation Service (Dishub) to facilitate the availability of parking spaces in buildings or malls," said Budi.

He targeted a meeting with the building manager could be carried out in the near future. One of the things that will be discussed is the implementation of rules related to the provision of special parking space for ojol drivers.

"This is our priority target. As soon as possible, maybe next week we will invite operators and building managers to discuss the implementation of the Ministerial Regulation regarding special ojol parking spaces," he said.

Budi admitted that the communication was not optimal as one of the obstacles as to why the special ojol parking issue had not been resolved for a long time. In addition, there are still a number of stations and certain areas that do not have adequate parking space.

"This communication may also be a lesson, there is wisdom behind it. Iji that we will coordinate because we will involve the community and also the operators and also the building owners," he said.

"Yes, and sometimes at some stations there is still no place either. Well, this is what we will try to discuss, hopefully there will be a meeting point and it can be realized for a better Jakarta later," he continued.
