JAKARTA - A senior United States official said Israel and Hezbollah, a Lebanese-based Shiite group, agreed to a ceasefire starting Friday (19/6).

The previous US-Iranian technical negotiations were canceled in Switzerland after Iran protested Israel's continued attacks on Lebanon.

However, the official did not provide further details regarding the deal.

The ceasefire was agreed after at least 47 people were killed and a number of other residents were injured in a series of Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon since Friday morning. Four Israeli military personnel were also killed due to Hezbollah attacks in southern Lebanon.

As for Wednesday (17/6), US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed an electronic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Islamabad to end the war between the US-Israel and Iran, as well as stopping Israel's attacks on Lebanon.

Meanwhile, in a telephone interview with NBC News, Trump admitted to speaking with Israeli Zionist authorities on Friday so that they would agree to a ceasefire with Hezbollah.

"The results are positive," Trump said, as quoted by NBC reporters via social media X.

Although hostilities are still taking place between Israel and Hezbollah, Trump told NBC News that he still feels good about the leader of the Israeli authorities, Benjamin Netanyahu.

"You just need to calm down a little bit and use your brain," Trump said.

According to official statistics, the Israeli military's attacks in Lebanon since March 2 have killed 3,912 people, injured 11,873 people, and forced more than 1 million people to flee.

Israel still occupies various points in southern Lebanon, with a number of areas having been occupied for decades and a number of others occupied after the conflict flared up again.

In the latest attack on Lebanon, Israeli forces broke through the Lebanese border and entered up to 10 kilometers into the country's territory.
