JAKARTA - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon asked that the development of culture in South Sulawesi not only depend on the state budget. He encouraged the local government to work with the private sector, philanthropy, and cultural observers so that cultural preservation could run more broadly.

This was conveyed by Fadli when receiving the Deputy Chairman of the South Sulawesi DPRD Yassir Machmud and members of the Pansus Raperda for the Development of Culture of the South Sulawesi DPRD at the Ministry of Culture, Jakarta, Thursday, June 18.

The meeting discussed the preparation of the Cultural Development Regulation which is being drafted by the South Sulawesi DPRD.

The chairman of the Pansus Raperda for Cultural Development of the South Sulawesi DPRD, Firmina Tallulembang, said that his party had collected input from cultural actors in South Sulawesi.

"We have received a number of proposals from cultural actors in South Sulawesi regarding the preparation of the South Sulawesi Provincial Raperda," said Firmina.

A number of issues were discussed in the meeting. Starting from strengthening regulations, budget support, coordination of regional policies with the national level, acceleration of the preparation of the Regional Cultural Master Plan or PPKD in districts/cities, to cultural service standards.

Fadli said that cultural development requires joint work. It is not enough just for the central and regional governments.

"Currently, the Ministry of Culture is encouraging various parties to be involved, not only between the central and regional governments, but also involving the private sector, philanthropists, and cultural observers," said Fadli.

According to him, collaboration is important so that the preservation and development of culture is not entirely based on the state budget.

The Ministry of Culture also prepares support for the Special Allocation Fund or non-physical DAK. This fund can be used to strengthen cultural parks and museums in the region.

Fadli menyebut museum punya peran penting sebagai ruang pengenalan budaya.

"Museums are cultural showcases as well as civilization showcases that allow the public and tourists to get to know the cultural richness of South Sulawesi," he said.

He assessed that museums could also be a source of cultural economy if managed seriously.

Fadli also touched on the protection of indigenous people. He said the Ministry of Culture continued to coordinate with related ministries and agencies so that the aspects of culture and indigenous people were not neglected in regional development.

Meanwhile, Yassir Machmud said South Sulawesi has a great cultural heritage from various kingdoms that have developed in the region.

This heritage, said Yassir, is an important capital to strengthen the cultural identity of the region.

The meeting was also attended by the Expert Staff of the Minister of Culture for Inter-Institutional Relations Ismunandar, Head of the Legal and Cooperation Facilitation Bureau Ardhien Nissa Widhawati Siswojo, Director of Cultural Heritage Agus Widiatmoko, and Head of the South Sulawesi Culture and Tourism Service Andi Mirna.
