Today BMKG Forecasts Cloudy to Rainy Weather in Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the weather of most major cities in Indonesia will be dominated by cloudy to rainy conditions this Sunday.

Through the weather forecast broadcast in Jakarta, Sunday, BMKG Praktirawan Afif S gave special warnings for several areas in the western part of Indonesia that have the potential to experience extreme weather.

"For the western part of Indonesia, it is anticipated that there is the potential for lightning in Medan, Jambi, Palembang, and Tanjung Selor," he said.

Afif also said there was a potential for moderate intensity rain in the Tanjung Pinang area.

Light rain is also predicted to pour over Pekanbaru, Padang, Bengkulu, Bandar Lampung, Serang, Jakarta, and Bandung, while Surabaya has the potential to experience hazy weather.

"For the Banda Aceh, Pangkalpinang, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Palangkaraya, Banjarmasin, Pontianak, and Samarinda regions, it is estimated to be cloudy," he said.

Meanwhile, in the eastern part of Indonesia, light rain is expected to wet Denpasar, Mamuju, Palu, Manado, Ternate, Sorong, Ambon, and Jayawijaya.

Cloudy to overcast conditions are predicted in Kupang, Makassar, Gorontalo, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Merauke, as well as the potential for smoke or fog in Mataram, Kendari, and Nabire.

Afif reminded that the forecast was a general picture of the weather that would occur today.
