JAKARTA - PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk continues to strengthen its role in providing cross-border digital payment solutions through the development of QRIS Cross Border BRImo which can now also be used in China. This step is a manifestation of BRI's commitment to providing a seamless transaction experience for customers in the global arena.

This expansion is in line with the increasing mobility of Indonesian people abroad, including to China as one of the favorite destinations after the pandemic, which requires more practical and secure transaction solutions. Through the QRIS Cross Border feature on BRImo, customers can simply scan the QR at a local Chinese merchant to transact directly without the need to exchange cash. All payments will be automatically converted from rupiah balance with a transparent, competitive, and real-time exchange rate.

The implementation of QRIS Cross Border in China is also part of BRI's support for Bank Indonesia in expanding the connectivity of the inter-country payment system. This is expected to increase the efficiency of Indonesian people's transactions abroad, strengthen Indonesia's position in the global digital financial ecosystem, and encourage the creation of an increasingly integrated cross-border payment network.

BRI Information Technology Director Saladin Dharma Nugraha Effendi said that the development of the BRImo QRIS Cross Border in China is part of BRI's efforts to strengthen digital services to support customer needs when traveling abroad.

"The presence of QRIS Cross Border BRImo in China has the potential to increase overseas tourist transactions, because of its ease of use. With this system, Indonesian tourists can directly shop at merchants in China that have integrated QRIS. In the future, BRI will continue to encourage innovation of digital services that are relevant to the needs of the community while expanding the acceptance of the Indonesian digital payment system at the global level," said Saladin.

Through the BRImo QRIS Cross Border in China, Indonesian tourists can now transact more easily at various Chinese merchants without having to carry cash or looking for a money changer. The transaction process becomes faster and more convenient through direct QR scanning, with a system that automatically cuts the rupiah balance and displays transaction details transparently on BRImo.

In addition to providing convenience, this solution also presents added value in the form of cost efficiency, because the exchange rate is competitive and often more profitable than physical exchange. This provides a more economical, practical, and controlled transaction experience for tourists during their trip.

Not only that, every transaction made is also recorded in real-time on BRImo, so customers can more easily monitor their spending anytime and anywhere. This strengthens the aspect of financial control, while increasing a sense of security when transacting abroad.

In line with this, the adoption of BRI's digital transaction services continues to show positive growth. Until the first quarter of 2026, the volume of BRI QRIS transactions was recorded at Rp. 30.5 trillion or grew 76% year-on-year (year-on-year/YoY), with the number of transactions reaching 253 billion transactions or increased 86.7% YoY. Meanwhile, the volume of BRImo super app transactions increased 29.4% YoY to Rp. 2,042.2 trillion. (ADV)
