Trump was seen standing in the VIP ringside area during the National Anthem alongside New York Knicks owner James Dolan at Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
Trump said he was personally invited by Dolan, an old friend.
Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani both attended the game and cheered on the Knicks as they looked to clinch another victory in the best-of-seven series.
"They're really great, a great team. I'm happy for Jim because Jim has really worked hard to produce a team like that," Trump told reporters last week, as reported by ABC News.
Trump was seen inside his VIP area with his grandson, Kai Trump, Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Jared Kushner, among others.
When asked about the possibility of attending the highly anticipated match, Mamdani said, "I paid for my own ticket," in an interview with radio station 1010 Wins on Friday last week.
Trump and Mamdani have had private meetings at the White House since the Democratic socialist politician won the 2025 mayoral election.
However, Mamdani had previously said he would be in an area of the stadium "very different" from the president during the match.
He sidestepped several questions about whether he would meet with Trump during his visit to New York.
"If I meet him, I'll tell him what I've said repeatedly, which is we're happy to welcome anyone who supports the Knicks," Mamdani told 1010 Wins.
