11 Houses in Talaud Sulut Slightly Damaged by Mindanao Earthquake

MANADO - A total of 11 houses in the Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi were slightly damaged after being shaken by a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in the South Coast area of Mindanao, Philippines, this morning.

"So, in addition to 11 houses that were slightly damaged, there were also damaged public facilities, such as the port warehouse in Essang and the hospital fence," said the Secretary of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of the Talaud Islands Regency, Fretsli Ontorael, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, June 8.

In addition to houses and public facilities being slightly damaged, two Rainis residents received help at the local health center after being shocked by the earthquake.

The two residents were then sent home in better condition, after receiving treatment.

"The current situation is conducive, residents have carried out activities as usual," said Frestli.

Frestli hopes that residents living on the coast will remain cautious and vigilant even though the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has ended the tsunami early warning a few hours ago.

"Continue to be active as usual and remain vigilant even though the number of aftershocks has decreased," said Frestli.

On Monday at 06.37.42 WIB, the southern coast of Mindanao, Philippines was shaken by a tectonic earthquake and the results of the BMKG analysis showed that this earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7 at a depth of 47 kilometers.

The epicenter of the earthquake is located at coordinates 5.80° N; 125.14° E, or precisely located in the sea at a distance of 244 kilometers northwest of Karatung Island, North Sulawesi.
