JAKARTA - The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran claims to have destroyed eight US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain with a series of missile and drone attacks.

IRGC stated that the operation was carried out jointly with naval and air forces. The targets of the attack included eight US military facilities at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait as well as facilities related to the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.

The ballistic missile and drone attacks were a response to recent US attacks on Iranian facilities in Sirik and Qeshm Island.

According to IRIB's report, the operation came hours after tensions escalated in the Gulf waters and was one of Iran's most significant direct attacks on US assets in the region since the conflict began.

The escalation came despite Iran and the US having signed an Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) mediated by Pakistan to end the war that began on February 28.

The MoU came into force on June 18 after being signed electronically by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump.

The document, among other things, regulates the cessation of war, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of the US naval blockade against Iran, and further negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.
