Police Target Vehicles Without Number Plates in the 2026 Patuh Jaya Operation

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has confirmed that it will take firm action against a number of traffic violations that are the main targets in the Patuh Jaya 2026 Operation which will be held from June 8 to 21.

Director of Traffic (Dirlantas) of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Komarudin, said that one of the violations that was a major concern was vehicles that were not equipped with Motor Vehicle Number Plate (TNKB) or number plates in full.

According to him, every vehicle is required to have number plates on the front and back. However, it is still found that drivers, especially sports motor and big motor (moge) users, do not install TNKB completely.

"We see a phenomenon of many vehicles removing license plates, especially the back, for various reasons. In fact, this is often done to avoid being caught by the ETLE camera," Komarudin told the media, at the Polda Metro Jaya, Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Therefore, in addition to utilizing the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) system, the police, said Komarudin, will also optimize manual fines for violations that are seen directly in the field.

"Officers will be equipped with manual fines to enforce the law against violations of the eye," he said.

In addition to vehicles without number plates, violations against the flow are also the main target of the operation. Komarudin assessed that there are still many drivers who use a certain road access or access to reverse the flow in order to shorten the journey.

According to him, the violation not only endangers the safety of road users, but also has the potential to cause traffic congestion and chaos.

"We will take firm action. Because this is very clear. Not only threatening the safety, but also becoming a potential density, a potential congestion on certain roads," he said.

In addition, another violation that is a serious concern is the use of mobile phones while driving. The phenomenon of drivers who record road conditions or create content while driving is considered increasingly common and high risk of causing accidents.

"Please record if necessary, but do not do it by the driver. Ask passengers for help so that safety is maintained," he said.

Furthermore, Operation Patuh Jaya 2026 also targets underage drivers, drivers who do not use safety belts, motorcycle drivers without helmets, and drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol.

Komarudin emphasized that the operation was aimed at improving community discipline in traffic to realize security, safety, order, and traffic flow (Kamseltibcarlantas).

"The public does not need to worry as long as they comply with the applicable rules. This operation aims to increase the discipline and safety of all road users," he concluded.
