Iran Warns US Ceasefire Risky, Threatens New Attack on Israel

JAKARTA - Iran's main military command warned on Monday that if Israel attacked the Lebanese capital, Beirut, northern Israelis should leave the area if they did not want to be hurt.

The warning came as Mohsen Rezaei, Advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran, said further escalation in Lebanon "will not be tolerated," adding in a post on X, "the patience of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran has limits," as reported by Al Arabiya (2/6).

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an attack on Hezbollah-held southern Beirut suburbs on Monday, triggering another wave of displacement in a conflict that has left more than a million people displaced in Lebanon.

Iran's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the US was responsible for the violation of the ceasefire with Iran and the ceasefire violations committed by Israel in Lebanon.

He said, the violation of the ceasefire on one front was the same as the violation on all fronts.

The latest tensions threaten a fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States that took effect on April 8 after 39 days of war. Since then, the two sides have been in contact aimed at turning the ceasefire into a broader agreement, but no final agreement has been reached.

It is known that Iran has repeatedly stressed that the ceasefire must apply on all fronts, especially Lebanon, where the Tehran-backed Hezbollah militia has been at war against Israel. Iranian officials have warned that Israel's continued attacks in Lebanon could jeopardize the ceasefire and broader diplomatic efforts.

Earlier on Monday, Iranian state television reported that the possibility of a ceasefire between Tehran and Washington was very high if Israel's attacks on Lebanon continued.

Separately, Tasnim, a news agency affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported that Tehran's negotiating team had suspended messaging with the United States through mediators in response to the attack on Lebanon.
