JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump on Monday urged Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East and beyond to normalize relations with Israel as part of an Iran peace deal being designed.
In a lengthy post on social media, Trump listed the countries whose leaders he had spoken to on Saturday about efforts to end the war with Iran.
"After all the efforts made by the United States to try and put together this very complex puzzle, it should be mandatory for all these countries, at least simultaneously, to sign the Abraham Accords," he wrote, launching Al Arabiya (25/5).
The Abraham Accords are a series of agreements brokered under the Trump administration in 2020.
The agreement regulates the normalization of diplomatic relations between Israel and countries that have historically been hostile to it.
"There may be one or two (countries) who have reasons not to do so, and that will be accepted, but most must be ready, willing, and able to make this Deal with Iran a far more Historic Event than it should be," Trump wrote in his Truth Social post.
In the same post, he said negotiations with Iran "are going well!"
Previously, Trump said in a separate Truth Social post, an agreement with Iran would be a "great and meaningful" deal or there would be no deal at all.
"A deal with Iran will be a great and meaningful deal, or there will be no deal at all," Trump wrote.
"This will be the opposite of the JCPOA disaster negotiated by the failed Obama administration, which was a direct and open path to nuclear weapons for Iran. No, I will not make such a deal!" he continued.
The United States and Iran dampened hopes of an immediate breakthrough in efforts to end their war on Monday, with the top US diplomat saying Washington would get a good deal or negotiate with Tehran "another way."
