Iranian Foreign Minister Meets with Oman's Foreign Minister in Muscat to Discuss Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi Leaves Message

JAKARTA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) of Oman Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (Wamenlu) of Iran Kazem Gharibabadi in the capital of Oman, Muscat.

The Oman News Agency reported that during the meeting, the Iranian Foreign Minister conveyed "oral messages" from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The meeting on Sunday, May 24 local time, also discussed a number of other things, including regional peace. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran discussed the US-Iran negotiations mediated by Pakistan.

Oman and Iran also agreed to commit to maintaining the smooth flow of trade and connectivity by continuing freedom of navigation, especially in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman, after the two meetings, a wider meeting was held between the Oman and Iranian delegations to discuss a group of principles governing freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international legal rules.

"Both delegations exchanged views and ideas based on the latest developments and the need to build and develop capabilities that ensure the safety of shipping traffic, trade, and supply chains," the statement said.
