Malang - The Malang Police are still investigating the alleged explosion of firecrackers at a house in Jenggolo Village, Kepanjen District, Malang Regency, East Java which caused one victim to die.
Head of Public Relations Section of Malang Police, AKP Bambang Subinanjar, said that during the initial investigation and processing of the crime scene, a team from the criminal investigation unit (satreskrim) also secured evidence of a bucket containing firecrackers from the scene.
"Evidence in the form of fireworks of various sizes has been secured, at this time investigators are still investigating the exact cause of the explosion, including the origin of the fireworks powder used by the victim," said Bambang, quoted by Antara, Sunday, May 24.
The identity of the victim who died in the explosion was initials S (48) who was the owner of the house.
Bambang said the explosion that caused the death of S occurred on Saturday (23/5) at around 11.15 WIB.
At that time, residents around the scene suddenly heard an explosion from inside the victim's house. Immediately, they rushed to the source of the sound to check.
Upon arrival at the scene, residents found S already in a serious state of burns on several parts of the body, including the feet, hands, chest, stomach, and face.
After receiving the report, a team from the Malang Police together with the Kepanjen Police were immediately deployed to handle the incident.
Bambang said that upon arrival at the crime scene, his party immediately helped evacuate the victim to the Kanjuruhan Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Malang Regency, so that he could get medical treatment as soon as possible, but about two hours later S was declared dead.
The police also made a request for a visa and autopsy for the purpose of investigation, but it was rejected by the victim's family.
"The victim's family accepted this event and did not want an autopsy to be carried out. However, we will continue to investigate to fully uncover the series of events," said Bambang.
