Daan Mogot Closed until Next Year, DPRD Warns DKI Government Not to Make Residents More Suffering from Traffic

JAKARTA - The construction project of a pump water management system on Jalan Daan Mogot, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, will trigger the closure of a number of roads until next year. This condition is feared to worsen congestion on one of the busiest routes in West Jakarta.

Member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, PSI Faction, William Aditya Sarana, reminded the DKI Provincial Government not to just carry out traffic engineering during the project. Because, even without the project, Jalan Daan Mogot has long been known as a daily traffic jam point.

"Without these projects that result in traffic engineering and closures, Jalan Daan Mogot is already famous for being jammed. People suffer because of it every time they pass through it day by day," William told reporters on Thursday, May 21.

According to him, the closure of the road for a long time must be accompanied by mature traffic mitigation. Otherwise, the impact will be felt directly by residents who pass through the corridor every day.

"Therefore, traffic engineering and road closures must be seriously planned and carried out properly. There will definitely be traffic jams, so it must be mitigated so that the congestion does not become too severe. Moreover, if it goes according to plan, the closure can be carried out until next year," he said.

William assessed that the DKI Provincial Government was not enough to ask the public to reduce the use of private vehicles. The government must also prepare adequate alternative transportation during the project.

He also encouraged the addition of public transportation services along the Daan Mogot corridor. Starting from the Transjakarta fleet to the JakLingko shuttle, it is considered necessary to be strengthened so that residents still have mobility options in the midst of potential long congestion.

"One of them, the DKI Provincial Government may be able to increase the frequency of public transportation services. Along Jalan Daan Mogot there is Transjakarta, then there are Jaklingko angkot-angkot as well. For the time being, the construction is underway, maybe the service can be added," said William.

"This is important to provide the public with alternatives. Don't let the residents be asked to reduce the use of private vehicles if they don't want to be stuck, but from the DKI Provincial Government itself there is no solution," he continued.

Apart from traffic engineering, William also highlighted the potential for delays in project work. He asked that the construction of the pump water management system not drag on beyond the target that had been set.

"Also, don't let the work drag on. If it is only needed until next year, then the implementation is also enough until next year. Traffic engineering and road closures cannot be done for too long," he concluded.
