JAKARTA - After the fire, a number of traders in the Taman Puring Market area, South Jakarta admitted that their income had decreased. As we know, the Taman Puring Market burned in 2025, so that buying and selling activities were carried out in temporary stalls.
"In the past, people were comfortable shopping. Now it's hot, whatever it is. Buyers are still there, but they have decreased a lot," said Lapak Taman Puring Trader Coordinator, Asmun, quoted by VOI from ANTARA.
Asmun said the post-fire condition made the number of buyers drastically reduced compared to when the market was still standing normally.
He who has been trading clothes in Taman Puring Market for more than two decades admitted that his income had now dropped sharply.
From the previous one which could reach around Rp2 million per month, now his income is only around Rp1.5 million per month, even less.
"That's enough just for daily meals. My children are three, they are still in school," he said.
A similar complaint was made by a sports shoe trader, Soleh, who has also been trading for more than 20 years in the area.
Soleh said that trading conditions after the fire were very different because traders now only sell with makeshift facilities and cannot carry many stock of goods.
"If for income it is obviously different. Because we sell here as it is, yes, we can't bring a lot of stock. But it's still good to make a living like that," said Soleh.
According to him, the condition of the temporary stall makes trading activities unstable because buyers come irregularly.
Soleh said the price of the shoes he sold ranged from Rp50 thousand to Rp100 thousand per pair with uncertain profits.
"If the profit is relative, sometimes we get Rp10 thousand if we don't sell it," he said.
In crowded conditions, Soleh admitted that he could sell up to 20 pairs of shoes per day, but this does not happen every day because it depends on the number of buyers who come.
