Why Did Dhuafa Wallet Cut Palestinian Sacrificial Animals in India? Here's the Reason

JAKARTA - Given the security factors that are not conducive and the limited availability of livestock in the Gaza Strip, Dompet Dhuafa has prepared a special strategy to distribute sacrificial animals to Palestine on Iduladha 1447 H. The slaughter of sacrificial animals will not be carried out directly in the conflict area, but will be diverted to India.

The Manager of the Dompet Dhuafa Strategic Alliance, Syamsul Ardiansyah, explained that India was chosen because of the abundance of buffalo livestock and the much more affordable price compared to buying live animals directly in Palestine.

"So we will cut buffalo from India to be sent to Palestine. We do not cut live animals in Gaza because of security considerations and also the availability of sacrificial animals that can be slaughtered," said Syamsul Ardiansyah in Jakarta, Wednesday (20/5/2026).

Distribution of Frozen Meat to Refugee Camps

The buffalo meat that has been slaughtered in India will be packaged in the form of frozen meat. Dompet Dhuafa targets this logistics distribution process to run smoothly and can be distributed within one month after the cut.

The frozen meat will be distributed to Palestinian refugees scattered in a number of areas around the Middle East, including: the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Turkey and Egypt.

Canned Meat Innovation Especially for Residents in the Gaza Strip

In addition to frozen meat, some of the other sacrificial meat will be sent to processing plants in Egypt and Dubai to be produced into canned meat. This innovative step was taken in order to overcome the very strict logistical challenges to be able to penetrate into the Gaza Strip.

Syamsul said that canned meat was chosen because it had a long expiration date so it was very safe for the refugees' food security.

"We specifically (canned meat) to be able to be sent into Gaza. Why is it made in the form of a can? Because we consider the shelf life or shelf life. With the form of a can, this aid can be accepted and consumed by the Palestinians, especially in Gaza, within a period of no less than six months," continued Syamsul.

Later, this canned meat product will be produced into two flavor variants that are tailored to the local community's tastes:

Pure Meat: Whole meat ready to eat without additional seasoning. Meat with Sauce: Meat that has been seasoned and designed to be consumed immediately after being heated.

Expand Reach to 7 Countries Crisis of Welfare

Not only focusing on Palestine, in the 1447 H Eid Animal Distribution (THK) program this time, Dompet Dhuafa also expanded its distribution area to seven countries that are facing a major humanitarian crisis. These countries include Myanmar, Somalia, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Sudan.

To succeed in this international-scale program, Dompet Dhuafa has established close collaboration with three global partners. Interestingly, this year Dompet Dhuafa also added camels as one of the variations of sacrificial animals that will be slaughtered in addition to buffalo and cows.

Through the 1447 H Animal Sacrifice Distribution program, Dompet Dhuafa targets at least 142 buffaloes specifically for Palestine. However, this Islamic philanthropic institution hopes that this figure can increase to 300 buffaloes so that the benefits and distribution of sacrificial meat can reach more Palestinian refugees in need.
