JAKARTA - The Tangerang City Police (Polresta), Banten Police, are currently conducting an investigation and deepening into the case of the spread of the 'pocong' terror hoax content which is now causing concern among the community in the area.
"That's why we want to delve into (the issue of the coffin) who leaked the video," said Head of Public Relations of the Tangerang Police, Ipda Sandro, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 20.
According to him, the police investigation team is still investigating the motives of people who spread false content with the mystical terror of the 'ghost' figure.
The police have not yet found out about the information that residents have managed to capture the alleged perpetrators. However, Ipda Sandro assessed that the viral video was just a content to seek sensation in the midst of the rampant issue.
"People just make content so that it's crowded," he said.
It is known that the pocong, which is suspected of being a cover for criminal acts, is disturbing because it often knocks on residents' houses at night.
In the viral video, residents managed to capture the pocong.
"Bring it to the RT, this is what often knocks on people's houses," said the resident in the video.
Previously, the Tangerang Police Chief, Kombes Pol Andi Muhammad Indra Waspada Amirullah, confirmed the 'ghost' terror act which had caused a commotion and disturbed the community in his area.
He said the mystical issue was allegedly false information or the truth of the fact was not true.
"So don't easily believe information that has not been validated by not spreading news that is not clear about the truth," he said.
Based on the results of the police investigation, the 'ghost' terror act was suspected of being a modus operandi of a group of thieves or robbers by intimidating residents.
In the midst of panic and hesitation of the community, the irresponsible group took advantage of the situation.
"Don't let the community feel afraid, which is actually used to commit crimes such as theft and robbery," he said.
Indra emphasized that in order to provide a sense of security to the community, the Tangerang Police through the bhabinkamtibmas function together with the Babinsa elements and environmental devices will increase patrols in residential areas, especially at night and early morning.
In addition, the public is also encouraged to reactivate the environmental security system (siskamling) or night patrol as an anticipatory step to maintain the security of their respective environments.
"We also invite the public to revive the ronda or siskamling. Environmental security is a shared responsibility," he said.
