JAKARTA - US Vice President JD Vance said on Tuesday that talks with Iran showed good progress, but Washington was "on alert" to restart military operations if an agreement was not reached.
Vice President Vance's statement came hours after President Donald Trump said he had almost ordered a new attack and gave Tehran "two or three days" to reach an agreement.
"A lot of good progress is being made, but we will continue to work hard, and in the end we will reach an agreement or not," said Vice President Vance at a press conference at the White House, launching Al Arabiya from AFP (20/5).
Vance - a skeptic of war with Iran and who led a US delegation to Pakistan in April for talks that failed to produce an agreement - said Iran must accept that it should not have nuclear weapons.
"We're in a pretty good position right now, but there is an option B, and that option B is we can restart the military campaign," the US Vice President said.
"We are ready. We don't want to take that path, but the president is willing and able to take that path if it must be," he said.
