JAKARTA - The suspect in the alleged sexual violence case against four students of a pesantren in Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, was revealed to have a social media platform account that was allegedly a communication channel for men who like the same sex or gay.
"This social media is called Walla, like MiChat, WhatsApp, TikTok, but specifically for gays," said the Head of the Mataram Child Protection Agency (LPA) Joko Jumadi in Mataram, Tuesday, May 19, reported by ANTARA.
From the search, this social media platform can be accessed for free through the official Google Play Store app store with the name Walla: Chat & Male Friendship.
According to Joko, the suspect has been trapped in a fantasy on the platform.
He suspected that communication on the application was one of the triggers for the suspect to commit sexual violence against the victim.
He also explained that the suspect with the initials YMA, aged 25, was revealed to have been a victim while being a student at a pesantren in the Java region.
"That was when he was educated (at the highest level) at a pesantren in Java. He was a victim (of sexual violence between the same sex) there. Well, when he came back to the village, he was not rehabilitated and eventually he was trapped in that world, plus he joined this Walla medos," he said.
As an anti-sexual violence activist, Joko regretted that cases like this still occur in the environment of pesantren where children receive religious education.
He reminded the public to be more concerned about the impact of this issue, especially the pondok pesantren and parents.
From this case study, Joko saw an opportunity that the suspect took so that he could easily deceive the victim.
"So, the most severe victim is the most obvious who can never get the attention of parents, never visited, this is our big PR (homework) for the boarding school," he said.
The condition was then used by the suspect by starting to approach the victim, giving a sense of comfort as if he was a substitute for parents.
"Yes, like borrowing a HP (mobile phone), being fed, because they can get more attention, the victim is deceived by this suspect," he said.
So that this problem does not become a new chain, the Mataram LPA also pays attention to the psychological recovery of the victims.
"So, in addition to legal assistance, LPA is also focused on the rehabilitation process of victims, both in terms of psychological and medical recovery," said Joko.
This was carried out by the Mataram LPA in collaboration with the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) for the Protection of Women and Children (PPA) of Central Lombok.
"We prioritize the UPTD PPA first, if they don't have enough manpower to prepare psychologists, we will help, including specialist medical personnel," he said.
Furthermore, Joko expressed appreciation for the response of the pesantren who had proactively responded to this issue. According to him, this attitude should be an example for other pesantren.
"This is a new perspective in the world of education, it is the first time in NTB, there is one case of a pesantren who proactively reports, handles, and accompanies the victim. Of course this is a good practice and deserves appreciation," said Joko.
For legal issues, MYA has now been detained at the Central Lombok Police, starting from Friday (15/5). Handling the case is under the control of the PPA Unit of the Central Lombok Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
