JAKARTA - French investigations have revealed the discovery of 10 new victims in the case of the network of the late US sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
AFP reported on Monday, April 18, that France opened a human trafficking investigation related to Epstein after the US Department of Justice in January 2026 released the latest batch of files in the case of the financial entrepreneur and convicted sex offender.
French judges are seeking to investigate possible violations committed by Epstein in France or involving French perpetrators who facilitated his crimes.
A leading Paris prosecutor, Laure Beccuau, said about 20 Epstein victims had come forward after her office's call for potential victims to speak out in February.
According to Beccuau, some of the victims are already known by the investigators.
"But we also received reports from new victims, whom we don't know at all. There are about ten people," Beccuau told the RTL television station.
"The choice we have made for now is to listen to these victims," he continued.
"Some of them are abroad, so investigators are trying to arrange meetings that fit the time they can come to Paris," Beccuau said.
French investigators are also examining what is in Epstein's files, and will investigate the names mentioned by the victims.
"We have also recovered Mr. Epstein's computer, his phone records, his address book," Beccuau said.
He added that his team would "ask for international assistance."
French investigators searched Epstein's luxury apartment in Paris in September 2019 over allegations he provided underage girls for sexual abuse in France.
The search was after Epstein was found hanged in a New York jail cell on August 10, 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges involving minors.
"However, none of the potential suspects have been interviewed so far," Beccuau added.
Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to charges of procuring the prostitution of a minor under 18, and served 13 months in prison before being released on parole.
