JAKARTA - The third round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon mediated by the United States (US) ended on Thursday (14/5) after taking place throughout the day at the US State Department, with negotiations scheduled to continue on Friday.

"We had a full day of productive and positive talks, which took place from 09.00 to 17.00. We look forward to continuing tomorrow's talks and hope to convey further developments," a senior State Department official told Anadolu, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 15.

The talks come as the death toll from Israel's ongoing offensive in Lebanon continues to rise, despite a US-mediated ceasefire that took effect on April 17 and was extended until May 17.

It was reported that the US was represented by US State Department Adviser Michael Needham, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, and US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa.

Lebanon was represented by Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Moawad and the special envoy of the Lebanese president Simon Karam, the official said.

Meanwhile, Israel was represented by Ambassador Yechiel Leiter, Deputy National Security Advisor Yossi Draznin, as well as a number of senior military officials.

Earlier on Thursday, an Israeli attack on a residential compound in the southern Lebanese city of Srifa, in the Tyre region, killed two people, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA).

In a separate attack, one person was wounded by a drone attack in an area between the towns of Breqaa and Zrariyeh in Nabatieh, NNA reported.

Israeli fighter jets also launched attacks on the towns of Ain al-Tineh, Yahmar, Loubaya, and Sohmor in the Western Bekaa region, eastern Lebanon. There was no information on casualties in the attack.

Since March 2, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have killed at least 2,896 people, injured more than 8,824 others, and displaced more than 1.6 million people, or about a fifth of the country's population, according to Lebanese officials.
