JAKARTA - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) thwarted an illegal tin market smuggling of 16 tons at a warehouse in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 area, Tangerang Regency, Banten.

Deputy Commander of Kodaeral III, Brigadier General TNI (Mar) Dian Suryansyah said the arrest was carried out by the ranks of the Regional Command of the Navy (Kodaeral) III, Saturday (9/5), in cooperation with related law enforcement agencies.

The arrest began when there was information regarding the shipment of tin sand using two trucks from Tanjung Balai, Karimun to Jakarta.

The movement was considered suspicious because the truck carrying tin sand was supposed to go to PT Timah in Bangka.

Both trucks are moving towards Lampung to then depart to Java Island via sea route.

"From the intelligence ranks of Lanal Lampung, they also monitor this item has entered the ship and will cross to Java," said Dian as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 11.

Dian continued, after arriving on Java, the truck was continued to be monitored by the TNI AL until it passed through the Cilegon area until finally entering the warehousing area at PIK 2.

"This means that the two trucks carrying 16 tons of tin sand are not in the tin sand processing or refining operation area, but are actually in the Jakarta City area," he said.

When the truck arrived at the warehouse in the PIK 2 area, the TNI AL personnel immediately ambushed the two trucks and immediately inspected the drivers and the cargo inside.

From the results of the examination, his party found a copy of the auction brochure of the Batam State Property and Auction Office (KPKNL) which stated that PT. Mineral Anugrah Semesta was the winner of the auction of 16 tons of tin sand.

However, the two trucks are part of PT. Tambang Wancheng and do not have legal documents on the ownership of 16 tons of tin sand.

Not only that, the TNI AL also found documents from a cooperation partner stating that PT. Mineral Anugrah Semesta must sell the tin sand to PT. Timah in Bangka.

"Here is the basis of us also showing that it should be from Tanjung Balai Karimun if it is to be sold to PT Timah, it should have been diverted to Bangka," said Dian.

Based on the suspicious movement of the tin sand flow, the Indonesian Navy took action because they were afraid that the goods would be illegally exported.

The TNI AL also collaborated with the investigation team from the Mineral Resources Energy (ESDM) to seize all evidence.

Dian explained that this arrest was part of the TNI AL's efforts to eradicate illegal smuggling of Indonesian natural wealth.

He hopes that the disclosure of this case can have a deterrent effect on all parties to refrain from stealing Indonesia's natural wealth for personal gain.
