JAKARTA - Police are hunting for a gang suspected of being motor vehicle theft specialists (curanmor) accompanied by gun threats in the Duren Sawit area, East Jakarta (Jaktim).

"We are still hunting for a motor vehicle theft gang that occurred in our area," said Duren Sawit Police Chief Kompol Sutikno when confirmed in Jakarta, Tuesday.

He said the victim had reported the incident to the police, and the case was currently still in the intensive investigation phase.

"The victim has made a police report and has been followed up, maximum investigative steps are still being taken," said Sutikno.

However, he did not elaborate further on the identity of the perpetrator or the progress of the investigation because the investigation process is still ongoing.

The theft incident was previously viral after the surveillance camera (CCTV) footage was uploaded by an Instagram account.

In the video that went viral, the perpetrators were seen acting at a boarding house on Saturday (9/5) afternoon. The stolen motorcycle was known to belong to one of the boarding house residents.

Based on CCTV footage, the perpetrators were suspected of being three people and came in a group using one motorcycle.

When carrying out the action, the three perpetrators were seen sharing roles. One perpetrator entered the dormitory parking area secretly to break into the victim's motorcycle.

Then, another perpetrator was on guard near the security post, while one person remained on the motorcycle to monitor the surrounding situation.

Their actions almost failed after the hostel security officer caught the suspicious movements of the perpetrators through CCTV. The security officer named Kevin Gabriel Sihombing admitted that he initially saw two people entering the hostel area with suspicious movements.

"At first, I saw from the CCTV that there were two people who entered. Well, one was kneeling from under the post, then entered the parking lot. I immediately woke up and looked out the window, asking the one who was waiting at the electric pole, 'Why Bang? What are you doing Bang? What are you doing? ", said Kevin.

According to him, the perpetrator who was in the parking area was able to break into the motorcycle in a short time.

When he was about to take away the stolen motorcycle, the security officer tried to thwart the action by closing the exit portal.

However, the situation turned tense when one of the perpetrators took out a gun and pointed it at the security officer.

"Suddenly, this friend from the parking lot took the motorcycle, immediately speeding. The other friend, who was holding the beceng, immediately nodded at me while saying, 'Diem you, diem you!'," said Kevin.

Kevin also admitted that he had pulled his partner away because he was afraid that the perpetrator would shoot the gun. After the perpetrators fled, he and his partner had a chase.

"I pulled my friend, because I was afraid too, yes, I was shot. Well, after I pulled, I opened the door again, we just chased. When we chased, he just fired up once. It was like being chased by an online motorcycle," said Kevin.

Kevin suspects that the gang had previously surveyed the same boarding house location. He admitted that he had seen people with similar characteristics coming to the area around the beginning of March.

"If I look at it, it seems like I've been here. At that time, on March 1, I saw them coming in, but I put my hand out, they immediately ran away again," explained Kevin.

Until now, the police are still collecting evidence and hunting for the perpetrators whose identities are not yet known. The police are also investigating CCTV footage at the scene to uncover the whereabouts of the gang.
