JAKARTA - Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday asked Singapore for help to repatriate 11 Pakistani citizens and 20 Iranian citizens who were on board a ship seized by the United States.

"I have spoken to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, His Excellency Vivian Balakrishnan, and asked for Singapore's support in facilitating the welfare and repatriation of 11 Pakistani sailors and 20 Iranian sailors," Dar said on X, as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Saturday, May 9.

The ship was seized by US authorities and is currently near Singapore waters, he added.

Dar also said he had held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and stressed that the two sides continued to coordinate closely on this issue.

"Pakistan is also ready to facilitate the repatriation of Iranian citizens to their country through Pakistan safely," Dar continued.

"Pakistan, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant authorities, is coordinating closely with the US and other parties to ensure the safety, well-being, and speedy repatriation of its citizens," the minister added.

On Monday, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said the US had evacuated 22 crew members from the Iranian ship Touska, which was seized by Pakistan, after which they were handed over to Iranian authorities.
