BOGOR - A landslide disaster in Dramaga District, Bogor Regency, West Java, caused one resident to die after being buried by landslide material.

Head of Emergency and Logistics BPBD Bogor Regency, M. Adam Hamdani, said the victim was named Bidong (60), a member of the Petir Village Linmas. The victim was buried while cutting bamboo in the cliff area of Cibeureum Jiung RT 01/09 Village, Petir Village, on Tuesday, May 5 at around 13.30 WIB.

"The hillside land experienced a landslide with a length of about 30 meters, a height of 30 meters, and a width of six meters," said Adam, quoted by Antara Wednesday, May 6.

Based on the witness's statement, the victim had tried to save himself by jumping. However, the landslide material moved quickly until it dragged and buried him.

BPBD together with the joint SAR team immediately carried out a search after receiving a report at around 13.45 WIB. The team involved consisted of the TRC BPBD Bogor Regency, SAR Brimob Polri, Disdamkar, TNI-Polri, village officials, volunteers, and residents.

The victim was finally found at 17.25 WIB in a dead condition and immediately taken to the funeral home.

Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto also visited the funeral home to convey condolences to the victim's family.

"On behalf of the Bogor Regency Government, we express our deepest condolences for the death of one of the members of the Petir Village Linmas in this incident," said Rudy.

He also appealed to the public to increase vigilance, especially in landslide-prone areas in the midst of high rainfall.

"If there is heavy rain, the public is asked to stay away from areas that are prone to landslides for safety," he said.

Rudy also appreciated the cooperation of the police and residents in the process of evacuating the victims.
