JAKARTA - A joint SAR team found a fisherman who drowned after being swept away by the waves in a dead state on Payangan Beach, Jember Regency, East Java, Sunday.
A fisherman named Moh Ali Makrus (33) from Lojejer Village, Wuluhan District, Jember Regency, was lost to the waves while fishing with two colleagues behind Love Bay, Payangan Beach, Jember, on Tuesday (28/4).
"The missing victim who was swept away by the waves was found dead after five days of search," said Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Jember Edy Budi Susilo in the local district.
According to him, the victim and two friends were fishing behind the hill of Teluk Love Payangan Beach and his friends invited him to jump to leave the place because the waves were getting bigger.
"The victim did not have time to leave the place and was hit by the waves from behind, fell to the front and was helped by his friend, but the waves were too big, so the victim was carried away by the waves," he said.
The BPBD Jember coordinated with the Jember Post Basarnas to conduct a search which was divided into two teams since the victim was declared missing by the south sea waves.
The first team conducted a search by sea search using a Basarnas LCR boat along the Papuma Beach, Watu Ulo and Payangan.
Then the second team conducted a search with a sea search using a LCR boat of the BPBD along the Papuma Beach, Watu Ulo and Payangan.
"The joint SAR team managed to find and evacuate the victim in a dead condition at a distance of about 200 meters from the point where the victim fell/disappeared," he said.
The SAR team then evacuated using the LCR boat of the BPBD and Basarnas, the victim was stuck on a rock, then the victim was taken to the Ambulu Health Center and handed over to the family.
Edy explained that the SAR Team had experienced high waves on the beach during the search for the missing victim.
"With the discovery of the victim on the fifth day of the search, the Payangan SAR operation was officially closed, and all elements involved were returned to their respective units with thanks," he said.
